Hidden Falls: A Surprise Beckoning Adventure

The landscape of Tharaka Nithi County is chaperoned by a farrago of spectacle waterfalls, tall, modest and large, most little-travelled and enticing for unique adventures. In all, Tharaka Nithi County has about fifteen waterfalls, most sold short, remaining uncovered treasures that serve only as local delights. Some of the noteworthy sites in its index of waterfalls include: Machui Falls along Naka River; Kanda Kame and Enamwamba Falls along the Maara River; Ura, Kibuuka, Iruruni, Ikwa, Machi, Ngoki, Mwanyingi, Mwita, and Hidden Falls on River Tungu.

The latter, Hidden Falls, is located about 2 km north of Chuka town, off the B6 for less than a kilometre. Many people visiting it make Hidden Treasure Lodge & Spa their jumping-off place. A local guide can be arranged with prior arrangements. Though somewhat famous locally, it’s still a hidden treasure within lush country; often overshadowed by the larger and more toured Ikwa and Kibuuka Falls. Still, the visitor to Hidden Falls with find the site is scenically-pleasing and reachable without too much difficulty over well cut village trails. Its horsetail waterfall keeps much contact with the rock as it descends, rapids-like, over several series of rock steps before fanning out into a plenteous rock pool engulfed in a bucolic setting.
