Malaso Viewpoint: World’s End Viewpoint
The view of Losiolo Escarpment from the top of Malaso Point is a breathtaking centerpiece. It is most accessible from Nyahururu and Maralal along the C77 Nyahururu-Baragoi Road. It is also accessible without too much difficulty via C78 Archer’s Post-Wamba-Maralal-Malaso Road on a matching distance of 198 km that presents, in equal parts, fantastic scenery and bumpy driving along an all-weather road that is to be avoided over the rain season. At the moment, the C77 Road, tarmacked to Maralal town, 36 km outside of Malaso, is the quickest route.
Losiolo or Malaso Viewpoint, monikered as the World’s End for its sheer vastness, is composed of a picturesque mix of dandy peaks, craggy faces, sheer cliffs and jagged terraces that all roll down to Suguta Valley marked by a constellation of mud cones. Legend tells that the Suguta was once occupied by the mythological Lake Suguta which linked it to Lake Turkana. At Malaso Viewpoint the scale of the bleak, relatively flat floor of the Suguta Valley, niftily fringed by uplands east and west rising to 1,000 ms, is a dramatic scenery. Here, for hundreds of feet below the vast floor, varying with each season, is more a moonscape than a landscape.
The stunning views at Malaso Viewpoint can be even more striking during sunrise or sunset, as the light enhances the rugged terrain’s colors and shadows. What’s more, the contiguous upland area through beautiful forest stretches and extensive wheat farms is rather pretty. The local Samburu community who owns the land and turned it into a conservancy, offer guided walks along the breathtaking cliffs and down to the valley. The visit to Malaso is especially worthwhile on Saturdays, when there is a traditional market, patronized by Pokots’ and Samburus’, is held.

From stunning views of the Great Rift Valley to serene coastlines, Kenya is blessed with breathtaking viewpoints that offer travelers unforgettable panoramas. These destinations not only provide amazing photo backdrops but also inspire awe and appreciation for the natural world.
