Chepkiit (Mlango) Falls: A Powerful Cascade
38 km from Kapsabet en route Eldoret town at Mlango, at hand with the border between Nandi and Uasin Gishu Counties, lies an impressive waterfall boasted about as a must see in the North Rift Circuit. Also dubbed Mlango Falls, the scenic 70 ms Chepkiit Falls along Kipkaren River is especially worth a visit soon after the rains, yet, over all months of the year, is a lovely place to explore. As the Kipkaren gathers up the streams wending west, it reaches a formidable obstacle, squeezing through a narrow kazaam to creating a most powerful cascade. Here, the Chepkiit Falls tumbles in series of tires, wild and loud, to create a stunning spectacle, and spreading sprinkles of mist. It is a wonder of the North Rift, underrated and best seen to be believed. Chepkiit Falls, named after the monkeys found in the nearby forests, is rather well developed, with firm concrete underfoot paths, steps and guard rails for safety. Moreover, this site has a correlative cultural significance to that of Morobi Cliff as a Sheu Ritual Site. Aside from the crushing falls, there are bat-filled caves at the bottom for the very dashing. From Eldoret it is about 16 km.
