Diani Beach: Kenya’s Leading Beach Destination

Visitors to the South Coast of Kenya will now find it easier to access the area by way of the Dongo-Kundu carriageway that bypasses Likoni Ferry and Mombasa City. It loops around the western area of Mombasa International Airport and ends up in Kwale County, crossing Mteza and Mwache Creeks, to rejoin the A14 trunk Mombasa-Lunga Lunga Road 12 km south of Mombasa City. 7 km beyond Tiwi, you reach the lively town of Ukunda. Then, taking a left turnoff near Ukunda Police Station onto Ukunda-Diani Link Road, for 2 km, passing Ukunda Airport, you reach the junction of Diani Beach Road. Lo and behold, along this 22 km road is Kenya’s and Africa’s Leading Beach Destination 2014-2020, rated by World Travel Awards.

More than any other recreational hub in Kenya, Diani Beach Road has the greatest concentration of holiday resorts, making it a guaranteed success as a sun-and-sand lover’s haven. Whether you are looking for a calm stretch of sandy beach or a family-friendly ocean-facing resort, there are enough options out here to suit every type of traveller. The beach itself, running parallel to Diani Beach Road, lacks little in beauty and charm, certainly avouched to be Kenya’s best beach – revered for its ample and dreamy ocean-facing resorts. “Diani is the most tourist-oriented beach of the so-called South Coast. This is separated from Tiwi Beach to the north by the Kongo River.” Diani Beach is roughly demarcated by the Southern Palms Beach Resort, marking its north end, and Chale Harbour marking its southern limit.

Kenya is renowned for its stunning coastline along the Indian Ocean, offering a variety of beautiful beaches that cater to different preferences – from bustling resorts to quiet, secluded coves and picture-postcard creeks. Diani Beach, known for its powdery white sands and turquoise waters, is, perhaps, the most popular. Yet, each offers a unique experience, in almost always perfect tropical weather.

Located along the Kenyan coast, and a hub renowned for its pristine beaches, rich cultural heritage, and breathtaking landscapes, Kwale County uniquely combines two of Kenya’s unsurpassed offerings – beach and safari. Kwale County is also a melting pot of coastal traditions, modern development, farming and trade to boot.
