Iveche Falls: An Easy Launch From Embu

One of the great launches near Embu town, for those who love exploring lesser-known spoils, is Iveche Falls, where crystal-clear water cascades down between rocky ridges covered in emerald-coloured moss. Surrounded by thick woodland, a pathway cut through the thicket leads hikers to the falls and along the rock pool. It comes in various sizes and shapes, from small, gentle cascades to towering, thunderous falls – depending on the season – but is fullest during the rain season.

After the rains, Iveche Falls forms a delightful curtain waterfalls, with a broad, uninterrupted sheet of water flowing evenly over the vertical cliff face. The effect, draped in overgrown greenery, can be quite majestic. During the dryer months, the sandstone rocks over which the falls plunges into the steep, backdropped by the forested valley, is still wildly beautiful. For forever and a day, this little-known falls has inspired the locals with its beauty and power. For the first-timers to the site, it is scarcely credible how the Iveche Falls never gets under the limelight.

Despite having significant potential to attract visitors, thanks to its natural beauty and proximity to the B6 Road and Embu town, Iveche Falls currently lack the infrastructure and facilities necessary to accommodate travellers effectively. It lack amenities such as a marked footpath, guard rails, rest rooms, restaurants, and transportation options. Iveche Falls may offer opportunities for activities such as picniking, hiking, ziplining, birdwatching, and photography. Even so, Iveche Falls is an authentic and off-the-beaten-path experience worth a visit by nature lovers.

Iveche Falls is situated 5.5 km from the central business district of Embu. You drive out along B6 Embu-Meru Road for 4.5 km - past Nokras Silver Oak and Izaak Walton Inn until you reach Kenya School of Government – on your right. From here it’s less than 1 km to the falls. Locals are happy to give directions.
